I heard this song on KCRW a few weeks back then hunted and hunted for an mp3. It was nowhere to be found! Ah! Hate that. But this is a track from the Guillemots frontman that is not on his album. It was in a commercial in the UK that helped fuel its popularity. Really great cover if you ask me. But then again, the song is so great that it might just be that. If you fall in love with it like I did, you can catch him tonight at Hotel Cafe.

I’ve got a string of summer jams coming for you guys. This one seems to have popped up on a lot of the blogs recently. Probably the thing making me like this band the most is their Pitchfork Rising interview. Simply amazing. No standard answers here folks, just straight up entertainment.

p.s. I kind of feel like this is the song we wish MGMT had made rather than that crazy album. I know people keep saying give it a few listens, but I still think they jumped the shark.

An Early Peek At My Top Albums of 2010

Sooooo I was just talking to my brother about albums I’m pretty sure will make my top 10 this year. And realized it’s getting pretty full already! Thought I’d post it here for some discussion. This is how things lie right now:

1. Local Natives – Gorilla Manor
2. Beach House – Teen Dream
3. Minus The Bear – OMNI
4. Vampire Weekend – Contra
5. Gorillaz – Plastic Beach
6. Mumford & Sons – Sigh No More

And two albums I haven’t heard yet that will probably make it are Sia’s newest (because I love what I’ve heard so far and she’s the best) and the debut album from Lonely Forest (based on hearing all the songs live and LOVING them).

I’m sure I’m missing some stuff already, so this is gonna be tough come year’s end. We still have 8 months left. Bleh. I’m screwed. But yay music industry!

I haven’t been excited by too much new music since the crop of SXSW bands. (side note: really sad – I just now realized that my final sxsw picks post never went up. damn you auto-publish! at least that gives me a whole bunch more to share with you guys!) I went to Coachella over the weekend and my favorites were probably Beach House (may be my album of the year), Florence (man, that girl can sing), Local Natives (KILLED it), and Jay-Z (obviously…). Nothing new. But this song is really resonating with me. So thought I would share it with you guys. Villagers aka Conor J. O’brien will release his debut album on June 8 via Domino. Here’s the video for the track:

Man, I love Madi Diaz. If I had a label, I would sign her immediately. I saw her play at Hotel Cafe a while back and the minute she opened her mouth, my jaw dropped. She has such an amazing voice, it blows me away. If you are going to Austin, I cannot urge you enough to go see her and her partner in crime, Kyle Ryan. She just finished recording her debut album with John Alagia – who has worked with Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Rachael Yamagata…. so basically, nobody good I really hope this song made the cut, it kills me every time…

I don’t know much about MNDR, but this song alone is making me excited to see her at SXSW. She’s also playing an upcoming show with Sleigh Bells and has played in the past with YACHT. So not bad company there.

I think my brother is the one who turned me on to this band from Canada. He booked them in Seattle at the Croc for next week. Since then, they popped up on my Local Natives Pandora station (along with Honor Society – whaaaa?) – I went back to my computer to investigate what was playing because I liked what I was hearing. Oh those guys! Yeah, definitely need to see them at SXSW. And it sounds like it will be impossible to NOT have fun at their show. Their recently released video only further solidifies that…

Sorry, you’re only getting one US band this week. That’s just the way it is! I’m really excited for a bunch of bands from overseas. Including this one. I have a feeling Chew Lips are going to be one of the buzz bands at SXSW this year. Only time will tell. But I’m loving this song. Hopefully they bring copies of their album over to sell. I will buy one IMMEDIATELY.
